PLANS FOR A NEW TROON ACTIVE TRAVEL ROUTE UNVEILED

Plans for a new active travel route between Troon Railway Station and Loans Village are being unveiled and residents are being invited to an informal event to preview the plans.

Phase three of the new route is the result of previous public consultations and will complete the route between Muirhead Primary School on Buchan Road and Loans.  Phase one of the route stretched from Troon Railway Station to Dundonald Road, via Harling Drive and phase two, which has already been constructed, is from Marr College playing fields, also on Dundonald Road, to Muirhead Primary School.

The informative drop in event will take place on Thursday 4th April between 5pm and 7pm at Muirhead Activity Centre, Central Avenue, Troon.  Project engineers from Sweco will also be on hand to answer any questions and explain the project’s benefits.

David Manson, Project Manager, Ayrshire Roads Alliance, who are responsible for Active Travel said, “After a long time in planning it’s terrific to see the new route come to life and this is a great opportunity for people to learn more as well as the benefits of Active Travel.

“We’re working across South and East Ayrshire Councils to develop the Ayrshire Link, a network of safe and accessible paths enabling people to enjoy the outdoors whether that’s walking, cycling or wheeling.”

The Ayrshire Link will create a safe and accessible network of connecting paths and routes from Girvan to Lugton, developed by the Ayrshire Road Alliance, a public sector partnership between South and East Ayrshire Councils,

Fifteen different routes are currently planned or under different stages of development.

The project is being co-ordinated in collaboration with Sweco, a design, engineering and regulatory consultancy focused on making societies more sustainable and funding has been made available from various sources including Ayrshire Roads Alliance, South Ayrshire Council, Sustrans, Transport Scotland, East Ayrshire Council and SPT.
